Integration of Flight Companion and Flymap

Dear Flight Companion customers,

our proven Flight Companion will grow together with the successful moving map system Flymap. Together with the company Stauff Systec GmbH, we decided to unite our products GCAS/GCAS PLUS Flight Companion with Flymap to the new version Flymap GCAS/GCAS+. The products Flight Companion START and Flight Companion ICAO 3.1 are replaced with the Flymap standard version.

The time was right for this step, because the development of our Highend product GCAS/GCAS PLUS Flight Copmpanion would have resulted in selling prices, which are not competitive at the market. "The GCAS function is a welcome enrichment for our Flymap systems. The topic 'warning of unintentional intrusion into terrain' has already been discussed for a while.", Stauff Systec justifies the decision. Our shared goal is to meet your requirements even more and to offer a product, which is equipped with a maximum of meaningful functions and highest possible usability.

The substantial characteristics of the new Flymap GCAS/GCAS+:
- Terrain overlay,
- warning during approximation to obstacles,
- colour-coded representation of the terrain on the map depending upon warning level.
The base of the GCAS function is taken from the Jeppesen obstacles database, which is well-known in professional aviation. The terrain data are available in three size classes: Regionally (e.g. Germany and adjacent countries), Central Europe and Europe. The digital aviation maps are available to complement the coverage of the terrain data. In the version Flymap GCAS+ additional warnings of aviation obstacles such as masts, power supplylines, cables, chimneys are given. The Jeppesen obstacles database supplies this information, optionally with an update service.

Basic functions (also with the standard version):
- orientation of the map 'North up' or 'Course up',
- speed vector,
- announcement of the position being reached in e.g 10 minutes,
- selection of the 'Nearest Airport',
- airspace warnings,
- fading in of the approach charts being drawn to scale in the Moving Map,
- zoom and shifting of the map by finger tapping on the display,
- download of aviation weather forecasts via GAT24 Online Selfbriefing or DWD pc_met,
- download of VFR NOTAM via GAT24 Online Selfbriefing or DFS,
- fading in of precipitation radar (via DWD pc_met) into the Moving Map,
- fading in of GAFOR and NOTAM into the Moving map,
- digital instruments HSI, turn co-ordinator, variometer and optional artificial horizon,
- automatic flight log,
- aircraft check lists,
- operation on PDAs with high resolution displays.

On the homepage you find an extensive amount of illustrated information on the rich equipment of the software and for the various offer of digitized maps.

Upgrades:
Because of the union with Flymap, the former Flight Companion products are no longer supported. This service will end 12 months after the purchase of a Flight Companion licence in 2006. The same rules apply to the technical support. Of course we will keep the update-service for your current subscription of the approach charts.

We would like to facilitate the upgrade on the Flymap version by offering you attractive prices. It is also intended that all customers of the Flymap version automatically have access to the Internet service from GAT24 Online Selfbriefing. From there Flymap can be supplied with current and official data for aviation weather, NOTAM and airports. Please find the prices for these upgrades on the price list on the homepage.

We trust that these decisions - also in your interest - are correct and will lead to the results. We are looking forward to further good cooperation with you and our new partner Stauff Systec.
